Colleen Schmidt acquired an A-list roster of connections during her 17 years in the fashion industry, and her new retail venture puts those relationships to work: Thread Lounge is a sample sale that offers a seemingly endless supply of majorly discounted, mostly same season wares from sought after labels like Lewis Cho and By Malene Birger. Schmidt opened a permanent San Francisco location in Hayes Valley (597 Hayes Street) in March 2008 and has since opened a permanent store in Chicago (1009 W. Armitage Ave). She also opens pop-up shops in more than 14 major cities across the country for two-week stints throughout the year.
